Kidneys are the part of our body system and it looks like our body, to some extent, depends largely on them. Yes, kidneys are smaller in size but perform many crucial functions in our body. Without these functions, it is hard for our body to work and these functions are- maintaining the electrolyte balance, regulating blood pressure, blood filtration and producing urine. Our kidneys might get damaged if we do not take proper care of certain condions like high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity along with our lifestyle and diet.

Initial signs

Accumulation of fluids, toxic substances and wastes from food starts happening in the body if our kidney fails to work as expected. People who suffer from renal conditions should maintain a healthy diet to keep their body functioning in the long run.

Reviewing the figures

Factually, out of the total population in the world, 10 percent of the population is suffering from kidney diseases which makes it a concern for the rest of the population in the world.

In case, if one is suffering from a kidney disease, then he or she should make sure to get in touch with their doctor who recommends them the most suitable diet. And most of the time, renal diets focus on eliminating wastes and toxins in the blood. Therefore, while on dialysis, your doctor will recommend you to avoid the following:

● Sodium: If one is suffering from a kidney disease, his/her kidneys are unable to drain out the excess of Sodium. Therefore, doctors recommend less thsn 2000 gm of Sodium in a day.

● Potassium: People with kidney diseases should limit Potassium although, it is crucial for their bodies. As like sodium, it is also recommended by the doctors to take less than 2000 gm of Potassium per day.

● Phosphorus: People having any kind of kidney disease have altered kidney functions with his/her kidneys being unable to eliminate the excess of phosporus from the blood. As this is not good for their health, it is recommended that one must consume less than 800 mg — 100 gm of Phosphorus in a day. However, one can eat fruits to maintain the nutrition levels in their body.

Must-have additions in your diet

  1. One must include high-protein food items in their diet.
  2. One can ask their healthcare provider about the amount or quantity of fluid they can have whether water, tea, coffee or other beverages.
  3. Make sure the food being consumed has low levels of Sodium, Potassium and high level of Phosphorus.

Whatever diet your are following, take it under the guidance of your dietician or healthcare provider.
